Hiscox launches new UK holiday home stand alone cover

About 400,000 UK properties are classed as holiday homes — and Hiscox has responded with a new insurance solution for brokers to provide to their customers.

The Hiscox UK Holiday Homes policy is now available as stand alone cover, and is designed to cater for clients who own a second home in the UK that is not on long-term lease.

Your clients can benefit from the Hiscox cover and claims service for their holiday home, even if their main home doesn’t qualify for Hiscox’s high net worth 606 household policy.

Development Underwriter Hassan Karim says: “Holiday home insurance is a niche product where we can make a difference and create great cross-sell opportunities.”

Holiday home owners will also benefit from Hiscox’s extensive experience in handling claims.

“By ensuring that all holiday home claims are handled by the same team as our 606 claims, both clients and brokers can rest assured that they receive the same level of service from Hiscox that they have come to expect,” adds Hassan.

Unlike most competitors, who impose a flat rate on holiday homes, Hiscox rates each property individually according to its postcode. Automatic cover for occasional letting is included as standard, giving clients the freedom to use their holiday home whenever and however they wish.

Two times lucky

Hiscox has been named the Commercial Lines Insurer of the Year at the Insurance Times Awards — for the second year running. At the ceremony on 5 December, held at the Hilton Metropole hotel in Birmingham, Hiscox saw off strong competition from Fortis and Travelers.

The awards are decided by a mix of qualitative feedback and votes by insurance brokers across the UK. Gary Head, Hiscox UK’s Director of Business Insurance, said: “I would like to thank every single broker who voted for us. It is an absolute honour to be recognised for the work we have done, and are continuing to do, to provide Hiscox brokers with an edge in their marketplace.

“Looking ahead, we have some very exciting plans in place to ensure that this is just the beginning of the benefits Hiscox brokers will see. We always value feedback from brokers, so please contact us to let us know what you think.”

As good as our word

The new Hiscox advertising campaign kicked off at the beginning of the year to continue to inform customers what differentiates Hiscox products and services from other insurers.

You may have seen our adverts at poster sites on commuter routes into London, in the national press, direct mail and online. The strapline ‘As good as our word’ represents the values of the Hiscox promise to work with trust, honour and integrity.

Hiscox wants customers to understand the quality of Hiscox products and services and, as more people see these posters, we expect that brokers will see both their new business grow and retention rates of existing customers improve — for both private client and commercial business.

Since 2006, the number of customers who are aware of Hiscox and the products and services it offers has trebled. Many recognise Hiscox’s position as a premium insurer that differs from competitors.

Glenn Caton, Sales and Marketing Manager, said: “In essence, insurance is a promise and we want customers to understand the quality of our promise.

“We expect to see brokers benefit from an increase in new business and enquiries from customer retention from this campaign.”

How Hiscox can help you bring in new business

When it comes to writing commercial schemes, Hiscox offers a service that covers a variety of risks. Many people aren’t aware of the quality and range of this service. This is why Hiscox is launching a new campaign to let brokers know how it can help with all their various commercial schemes.

The campaign aims to inform brokers about the wide range of schemes Hiscox can write.

These include not only professional indemnity (PI), but also property and liability schemes.

Hiscox provides schemes for franchises and professional bodies, as well as covering more unusual schemes such as electrical contractors and angling coaches.

If you have a commercial scheme opportunity, then why not give Hiscox a try? Please contact your local underwriter, who will be happy to discuss your opportunity with you.
